What AI ad creative can and cannot do for your brand

The real advantage is volume, not magic

Paid social rewards testing. The ad that wins is rarely the one everyone in the office liked best. It is the one that happened to stop the right person mid-scroll, and the only way to find it is to try many versions.

That is where AI changes the economics. A traditional shoot gives you a handful of images and maybe one video. With AI tools, a designer can produce dozens of variations of a concept, with different backgrounds, angles, headlines and hooks, in the time it used to take to brief a photographer.

AI does not make your ad good. It lets you find out faster which ad is good.

What AI does well

Backgrounds and scenes

Product on a marble counter, on a beach, in a kitchen, in a gift box. AI is excellent at placing a real product photo into different settings, so you can test which context sells it.

Variations for testing

Same product, five colour schemes. Same offer, eight different headlines. Same video, three different first seconds. This kind of systematic variation is exactly what ad platforms need to find a winner.

Concepts before you commit

You can see roughly how a campaign idea will look before paying for a shoot. If the concept does not land in rough form, you have saved the shoot budget.

Resizing for every placement

Square for the feed, vertical for stories and reels, landscape for some placements. Reformatting is tedious by hand and quick with the right tools.

What AI does badly

  • Your actual product details. AI can invent labels, change shapes and misspell text. Every product shot needs checking against the real thing.
  • Hands and faces in close-up. Better than it was, still unreliable. Anything that looks slightly wrong makes the whole ad feel untrustworthy.
  • Brand consistency on its own. Without a clear brief, colours, fonts and tone drift from ad to ad.
  • Knowing what to say. The offer, the angle and the reason to buy still come from understanding your customer. AI will happily produce a beautiful ad with nothing to say.

Rule of thumb: AI makes the scene, a designer finishes the ad, and a person who knows your customer decides the message.

The honesty question

Showing a product in a setting it was never photographed in is normal advertising. Showing a product doing something it cannot do, or results it does not deliver, is misleading, whether a camera or an AI made the image. Keep AI ads honest about the product itself. Platforms are also increasingly strict about labelling AI-generated people, so check the rules for each one.

How we use it

Our AI ad work follows a simple process:

  1. Brief: the offer, the audience and the angle we want to test.
  2. Generate: scenes, variations and video drafts with AI tools.
  3. Finish: a designer fixes details, applies your brand and writes the copy.
  4. Check: every asset is compared against the real product before it goes out.
  5. Test and repeat: we look at what wins and make the next batch from that.

Where to start

If you are running ads with the same two or three creatives for months, fresh variations are probably the fastest improvement available to you. See our AI ads packages or read how our AI ads service works.
